Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity is available for a Locum Consultant in Paediatric Trauma Surgery to join the South Wales Regional Paediatric Network. This locum role is designed for a temporary period and is associated with the forthcoming recruitment for a permanent Consultant position.

The role, hosted by Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, encompasses both trauma responsibilities in Cardiff and elective duties at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. This position offers a distinctive chance to engage with and contribute to the comprehensive Paediatric Orthopaedic healthcare framework throughout South Wales as the South Wales Paediatric Network evolves.

While this position is full-time, we are open to considering candidates who require flexible working options.

Applicants should ideally be either on the Specialist Register or nearing completion of their Specialist Registrar training, with an expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) by the time of the interview.

Successful candidates will benefit from the advantageous Consultant contract for Wales, with a base salary of £105,401 per annum.

It is essential for applicants to provide the names and contact information of referees covering at least the last three years of their employment or training history. Additionally, those who have recently served as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant for over 12 months must include their Medical Director as an additional referee.

Main Responsibilities

The full-time post holder will fulfill their sessional obligations over a six-week cycle. The role includes integration with an established trauma team, alongside specific responsibilities for patients admitted under the Major Trauma Centre.

An on-call commitment is part of the role, currently structured as 1 in 6 weekends (from Friday midday to Monday morning) and approximately 1 in 4 weekdays.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice
  • Recognized Advanced Fellowship in Paediatric Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery
  • ATLS or APLS provider status

Desirable

  • On GMC Specialist Register for specialty

  • Extensive experience in Paediatric Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery
  • Demonstrated above-average competence in specialist paediatric trauma and orthopaedic surgery
  • Completion of a recognized paediatric fellowship
