Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a Locum Consultant in Paediatric Trauma Surgery to join the esteemed Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. This locum role is designed for a duration of three months, pending the recruitment of a new permanent Consultant.

This position encompasses a trauma focus within Cardiff, alongside an elective commitment at a partner health board. It offers a unique chance to engage with and contribute to the comprehensive Paediatric Orthopaedic healthcare framework across the region.

While this role is primarily full-time, we are open to considering candidates who require flexible working options.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should ideally be on the Specialist Register or nearing completion of their Specialist Registrar training, with an expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) by the time of the interview.

As part of this role, you will benefit from the competitive Consultant contract available in Wales, with a base salary of £105,401 per annum.

Applicants must provide comprehensive references covering at least the last three years of their professional history. Those currently employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant for over a year must also include their Medical Director as a reference.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will fulfill their duties over a six-week cycle, collaborating with an established trauma team while also taking on special responsibilities for patients admitted under the Major Trauma Centre.

There is an on-call requirement, currently set at 1 in 6 weekends and approximately 1 in 4 weekdays.

Essential Qualifications

  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice
  • Recognized Advanced Fellowship in Paediatric Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery
  • ATLS or APLS provider status

Essential Experience

  • Extensive experience in Paediatric Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery
  • Demonstrated above-average competence in specialist paediatric trauma and orthopaedic surgery
  • Completion of a recognized paediatric fellowship

Essential Skills

  • Evidence of effective teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Strong and demonstrable communication skills

Clinical Governance

  • Participation in clinical audit and an understanding of its role in enhancing medical practice
  • Engagement in Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
