Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Care Nurse Specialist to join our team at Saint Francis Hospice. As a key member of our nursing team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care to our patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Leadership and Team Working
  • Participate in organizing the nursing team in the absence of the Band 5B and/or Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.
  • Coordinate the Ward in the absence of a Band 5B and/or Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.
  • Ensure adequate staffing of the Ward.
  • Participate in change and development of practice.
  • Maintain effective communication networks with all departments within the hospice.
Clinical Practice
  • Provide physical, emotional, and spiritual care in agreement with patients and their families.
  • Consult and liaise with the nursing and multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care.
  • Use evidence-based practice when planning care.
  • Participate in the hospice quality assurance programme.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families, and liaise with other professionals involved in their care.
  • Recognize and report changes in patient condition, and respond appropriately to maintain effective symptom control.
  • Implement nursing procedures correctly and ensure accurate documentation.
  • Maintain all clinical records and associated documentation.
  • Participate in the annual hospice UK and clinical audit programmes.
  • Be a reflective practitioner.
  • Have an identified area of special interest in clinical practice.
Communication
  • Ensure effective communication with patients and their families, and other visitors.
  • Participate in discussion and ensure effective communication with the clinical team when planning and evaluating care needs.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to ensure high-quality care.
  • Effectively use IT systems to ensure patients' records are kept updated.
Education of Self and Others
  • Maintain awareness of professional developments in nursing and palliative care.
  • Be a mentor of students and new staff as required.
  • Actively participate in the Saint Francis Hospice reflective practice programme.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Take responsibility for own professional development.
  • Maintain current registration with the NMC at all times.
Additional Requirements

As an employee of Saint Francis Hospice, you will be expected to maintain confidentiality, security, and integrity of information relating to patients, staff, and other hospice matters. You will also be expected to be aware of your obligations in respect of the Data Protection Act 1998.

Hospice ID badges must be worn at all times whilst on duty.

The hospice acknowledges its responsibility to provide a safe, smoke-free environment for its employees, service users, and visitors.

All employees who are required to register with a professional body to enable them to practice within their profession are required to comply with their code of conduct and requirements of their professional registration.

The Working Time Regulations 1998 require that you should not work more than an average of 48 hours in each week.
