Position Overview

This role presents a remarkable opportunity for a Clinical Associate Practitioner eager to enhance their clinical and managerial expertise within a dynamic healthcare setting that serves the community.

Collaborating with a diverse team of healthcare professionals, the Clinical Associate Practitioner will manage a variety of appointments, encompassing both routine and urgent consultations, which may be conducted in person, via video, or over the phone, as well as home visits. The practitioner will leverage their skills to address pathology across the practice and handle relevant patient and secondary care correspondence.

The ideal candidate will be looking to commit to a full-time schedule of 37 hours per week, spread over five days. We seek an experienced Clinical Associate Practitioner, with compensation reflective of their expertise within the specified salary range, based on a 37-hour work week.

At Brookside Group Practice, you will be integrated into a well-established Clinical Associate Practitioner program, alongside other employed practitioners and trainees. We promote and support the development of specialized interests, while also providing ongoing supervision and mentorship.

Key Responsibilities

The Clinical Associate Practitioner will deliver a comprehensive and clinical service, with support from supervising GPs as necessary, implementing agreed management plans and adhering to established protocols. On a typical day, the practitioner will consult with patients presenting on the day and those with pre-scheduled appointments. Additionally, the practitioner will review and respond appropriately to blood results and referrals/correspondence concerning their patients.

Mentorship and supervision will be provided by designated senior medical personnel, with the level and type of oversight determined by the practitioner's acquisition of skills and knowledge, in accordance with the organization's clinical governance framework. The practice conducts monthly educational meetings, and the practitioner is expected to attend and actively participate in these sessions.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Engage in all treatment and preventative healthcare services as delegated by supervising GPs.
  • Provide direct clinical care to patients following established clinical guidelines.
  • Consult and refer patients to physicians, medical specialists, and other health professionals as necessary.
  • Conduct patient interviews, gather medical histories, perform physical examinations, analyze, diagnose, and explain medical issues during consultations and home visits.
  • Recommend and clarify appropriate diagnostic tests and treatments.
  • Request and interpret laboratory investigation results when required.
  • Execute specialized diagnostic physical examinations and treatment procedures.
  • Educate patients on preventative healthcare practices.
  • Conduct telephone consultations, discussing laboratory results and addressing routine and emergency concerns.
  • Order laboratory tests as needed and agreed upon with supervising doctors.
  • Document all aspects of patient care thoroughly and complete necessary paperwork for legal and administrative purposes.
  • Contribute to the clinical development of the practice by cultivating a special interest and establishing systems to manage common chronic medical conditions, ensuring compliance with national guidelines.
  • Formulate diagnoses and treatment plans in consultation with or by referring to supervising doctors as appropriate.
  • Provide clinical instructions to the primary care team as required.
  • Communicate with colleagues in primary care and hospital specialists to discuss or refer specific patients, plan and coordinate activities, or exchange information to enhance patient care quality.
  • Regularly interact with community hospitals, consultants, and other healthcare providers to refer or consult on specific cases, participate in community service, and engage in educational projects and activities.
