The SZC Project, a nuclear new build in Suffolk, has received planning approval and government financial backing, and is now progressing into the construction phase.

Position Overview: Environment and Sustainability Lead

In this critical position, you will be responsible for steering the implementation of environmental and sustainable practices across our contractor partnerships at Sizewell C. Your leadership will be essential in ensuring that the project adheres to its environmental obligations and sustainability objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate and execute protocols to guarantee adherence to environmental commitments and stipulations.
  • Oversee major environmental components of the project, mitigating risks to personnel and the ecosystem.
  • Incorporate environmental criteria into service agreements and assess proposals.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental management protocols among all service providers.
  • Lead a team of Environmental Advisors, conducting routine inspections and performance evaluations.
  • Assist the Environmental and Sustainability Manager in engagements with regulatory bodies and local authorities.
  • Offer expert guidance on environmental issues to SZC personnel, contractors, and consultants.
  • Foster relationships with stakeholders, including local planning authorities and environmental agencies.

Required Skills and Expertise

  • Comprehensive knowledge of environmental regulations applicable to construction sites.
  • Strong organizational capabilities with the ability to function autonomously and collaboratively.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive mindset with the ability to handle sensitive information discreetly.
  • Thorough understanding of management frameworks and their implementation.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in a relevant field (preferred).
  • Proven experience in delivering environmental and sustainable solutions for large-scale construction projects.
  • Familiarity with construction processes and standards.
  • Experience collaborating with regulatory authorities, planning bodies, and public organizations.
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation and standards for large construction projects, with an emphasis on the nuclear sector being advantageous.
