About the Role

Balfour Beatty is a leading infrastructure group that designs, builds, and maintains vital assets that support national economies and strengthen communities. As part of our commitment to sustainability, we are seeking a Site Ecologist to join our team.

The Site Ecologist will play a crucial role in ensuring that ecological considerations are integrated into our construction projects. This position involves collaborating with various stakeholders to meet ecological requirements while adhering to project timelines and budgets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide practical support and guidance to project teams regarding ecological obligations, including conducting on-site surveys and inspections.
  • Develop effective solutions to ecological challenges encountered during construction.
  • Engage with design teams, clients, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with ecological standards.
  • Deliver ecological consultancy services, including mitigation strategies and enhancement designs.
  • Support initiatives aimed at achieving Biodiversity Net Gain.

We are looking for a candidate who can foster a culture of continuous improvement in ecological practices on-site, ensuring that construction teams are equipped with the necessary knowledge and resources.

Who We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will report to the Head of Sustainability and will be responsible for:

  • Offering practical advice and site support on ecological matters.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of ecological management plans.
  • Building strong relationships with regulators, clients, and internal teams.
  • Ensuring compliance with ecological legislation and coaching construction teams on effective mitigation strategies.
  • Maintaining the company's environmental management system in accordance with evolving standards.
  • Investigating and documenting ecological incidents.
  • Conducting habitat assessments and protected species surveys.

The successful candidate will possess a solid understanding of ecological legislation relevant to development, along with a good level of commercial awareness. A full UK driver's license and the ability to travel are essential.
