In the pursuit of a fulfilling career that is at the forefront of project innovation, we are seeking an Environment and Sustainability Lead to play a crucial role in our Sizewell C (SZC) initiative. This significant nuclear project in Suffolk is not only one of the largest undertakings in the UK but also a key player in advancing the nation’s climate objectives and energy policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate and execute strategies to ensure adherence to environmental regulations and commitments.
  • Oversee critical environmental components of the project, actively working to mitigate risks to both personnel and the environment.
  • Incorporate environmental stipulations into service agreements and assess proposals accordingly.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental management protocols among all service providers.
  • Lead a dedicated team of Environmental Advisors, conducting regular evaluations and inspections.
  • Assist the Environmental and Sustainability Manager in liaising with regulatory bodies and local governance.
  • Provide expert advice on environmental issues to SZC personnel, contractors, and consultants.
  • Foster relationships with stakeholders, including local planning authorities and environmental agencies.

Essential Skills and Expertise

  • Comprehensive knowledge of environmental legislation pertinent to construction sites.
  • Strong organizational capabilities with the ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive mindset with a commitment to confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
  • Profound understanding of management systems and their implementation.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Degree in a relevant field (preferred).
  • Proven experience in delivering environmental and sustainable solutions for large-scale construction projects.
  • Familiarity with construction practices and standards.
  • Experience in engaging with regulatory agencies, planning authorities, and public entities.
  • Knowledge of environmental standards and legislation applicable to large construction projects, with an emphasis on the nuclear sector being advantageous.
