Role Overview

As an Operations Manager, you will report directly to the Operations Manager and hold overall responsibility for developing and managing key client expectations and operational delivery. Your role will support contract commitments while ensuring compliance with all quality procedures and safe working practices, executing all tasks to the highest possible health, safety, and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage financial authorities concerning contract revenue, expenditures, and budgets in alignment with operational forecasts.
  • Efficiently manage and utilize all business unit resources through effective planning and communication with peers and clients.
  • Ensure health and safety compliance by adhering to method statements and risk assessments, utilizing induction and toolbox talks, and ensuring the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Engage with subcontractors to ensure all necessary information is available, including training and competency checks, while upholding discipline within the business and ensuring compliance.
  • Assist in the preparation and production of job packs for various works, ensuring risks and hazards are properly identified and mitigated.
  • Encourage the reporting of near misses and monitor ongoing work to ensure it meets the required standards.
  • Collaborate with the Commercial Team to ensure work is delivered to target.
  • Ensure compliance with all HR processes, including investigations and disciplinary actions.
  • Oversee the accurate completion of timesheets and holiday requests.
  • Manage winter maintenance operations as per client instructions and maintain the winter and call-out rota.

Promote and enhance safety awareness within the organization, fostering a culture of zero tolerance towards unsafe acts and aiming for zero lost time incidents (LTIs).

Ensure all activities are conducted with due regard for the environment, preventing pollution, complying with legal and corporate requirements, and minimizing environmental impact.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess practical experience gained from within the highways maintenance and commercial management sectors over several years. You will demonstrate strong people management skills in line with corporate policies to cultivate a high-performing team. A valid UK driving license is essential for this position.

Compensation and Benefits

Colas Ltd offers a competitive total compensation package, including:

  • A salary of up to £60,000 (dependent on experience) plus a company car or car allowance.
