Position Overview

OBM People is seeking a Chemical Technical Specialist to join our team, focusing on providing expert support within the oil and gas service sector.

This role involves collaborating with Waste Station Managers to deliver essential technical assistance and chemist responsibilities at various operational sites, ensuring adherence to regulatory permits and planning requirements. The successful candidate will also be responsible for generating technical assessments and quotes for clients across the UK as needed. Key responsibilities include:

  • Responding to inquiries from a diverse customer base and offering knowledgeable technical advice.
  • Conducting technical evaluations, including the classification of hazardous materials in accordance with guidelines from regulatory bodies.
  • Managing and updating our internal waste and inquiry management system.
  • Supporting the customer service team in enhancing sales processes and ensuring timely preparation and delivery of service quotes.
  • Ensuring all waste-related quotes comply with relevant permits and waste management regulations.
  • Collaborating with site managers and operational teams to verify that all received waste meets established acceptance criteria.
  • Assisting on-site with the receipt, processing, and management of waste for storage and dispatch.
  • Providing local assistance to clients in hazardous packing and proper waste listing for transportation.
  • Ensuring waste is appropriately labeled and stored in compliance with site permits and applicable legislation.
  • Routing hazardous and non-hazardous waste to designated disposal facilities in accordance with approved guidelines.
  • Proactively identifying new disposal site options across the UK.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with third-party disposal partners.
  • Supporting other business areas as needed, including Industrial Services and Logistics.
  • Occasional travel may be required to assist with client locations and for professional development.
  • Performing any other reasonable tasks as requested by the organization.

Minimum Qualifications
  • HNC/D in a Chemistry-related field or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree in a Chemistry-related discipline.

Essential Skills and Competencies
  • Ability to foster positive working relationships and communicate effectively.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Capability to perform under pressure.
  • Understanding of the waste management industry and relevant legislation.
  • Certification in Working at Height.
  • Forklift operation certification.
  • Vehicle Banksman/Spotter certification.
  • Preparedness for road operations.
  • Knowledge of manual handling techniques.
  • Awareness of COSHH regulations.
  • Understanding of Dangerous Goods regulations.
  • Familiarity with Oil Spill response protocols.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Knowledge of waste processing, site permits, and other relevant waste legislation.
