Position: Safety Engineering Specialist

Todd Hayes Ltd is currently in search of a Safety Engineering Specialist to enhance our Quality, Safety, Security, Health, and Environment (QSSHE) team.

This role is a full-time position focused on delivering safety engineering expertise to our operations.

The Safety Engineering Specialist will play a crucial role in the QSSHE team, providing essential safety engineering support for our operational activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and facilitate safety assessments, including Total Risk Management, Hazard Identification (HAZID), Bowtie Analysis, and ALARP evaluations.
  • Conduct consequence modeling utilizing DNV GL PHAST or FLARESIM software.
  • Perform Mini Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA), including the development of Event and Fault Trees.
  • Execute Fire and Explosion Risk Assessments.
  • Prepare and manage Safety Case Material Changes.
  • Define the scope of requirements, oversee, and evaluate technical safety studies conducted by qualified contractors.
  • Conduct Quantitative/Qualitative Safety Critical System Impairment Assessments.
  • Carry out Occupied Building Risk Assessments, with a solid understanding of HAZOP, Safety Integrity Level (SIL), and Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) being advantageous.
  • Provide safety engineering support for the Management of Change (MOC) process, identifying necessary safety studies.
  • Collaborate with operations and projects to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and approved codes of practice.
  • Offer coaching, guidance, and advice to operations, engineering, and support teams to ensure adherence to relevant legislation.
  • Engage with regulatory authorities on Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) matters, providing insights on compliance.
  • Stay updated on changes in HSE legislation, codes, guidelines, and industry standards.
  • Support team members in meeting requirements under Safety Case Regulations (SCR), ensuring documentation is current and contributing to periodic reviews.

Critical Tasks:

  • Review Management of Change (MOC) proposals, addressing technical inquiries and ensuring compliance with technical standards.

Essential Qualifications:

  • A higher technical qualification in an engineering discipline, such as Process Safety, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Chartered status in mechanical, chemical, or process engineering is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in Safety Engineering within the Oil & Gas sector.
  • Proficiency in software applications including MS Office (Word/Excel), PHAST, PHA-Pro, BowTie XP, and FLARESIM.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with senior management and regulatory bodies.
