Job Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Forensic Mental Health Specialist to join our team at Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust. As a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist, you will play a crucial role in providing clinical leadership and expertise in assessing and treating individuals with complex mental health needs in a prison environment.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement effective treatment plans for individuals with mental health problems, taking into account their unique needs and circumstances.
  • Conduct comprehensive mental capacity assessments to ensure individuals are able to make informed decisions about their care.
  • Provide emergency interventions and crisis management to prevent harm to individuals and others.
  • Collaborate with prison staff, healthcare professionals, and other agencies to ensure seamless care coordination and effective communication.
  • Lead and manage a team of healthcare professionals to provide high-quality care and support to individuals in custody.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the delivery of mental health services in correctional settings.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant guidelines, policies, and legislation, including the Mental Health Act.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of individual care and treatment plans.

Requirements:

Essential

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • MRCPsych or equivalent psychiatric qualification.
  • Fully registered with the GMC.
  • Approved clinician status.
  • Excellent clinical skills and experience in forensic mental health.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Desirable

  • Additional clinical qualifications or experience in leadership and management.
  • Specialist experience in forensic mental health, including working with individuals with complex needs.
  • Experience in quality improvement initiatives and service development.
