Role: Special Education Support Assistant

Location: Elementary School Setting

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direct guidance of a classroom educator and in accordance with the directives outlined in the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP), the Special Education Support Assistant will provide essential support functions aimed at delivering a robust educational experience while fostering a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment for students with special needs. Responsibilities may include working with individual students or small groups, tailored to the specific requirements of the students' disabilities and the educational context.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree, 60 college credits, or successful completion of the Paraprofessional exam.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, educators, parents, and other professionals.
  • Capability to assist with the medical needs of students as required.
  • Excellent communication skills suitable for sustained interaction with students with disabilities.
  • Prior experience working with students in special education settings.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The individual in this role must be able to stand, walk, sit, utilize hands for various tasks, reach with arms, and occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 40 pounds. The role may also involve activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, as well as effective communication in both quiet and noisy environments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement the IEP and adhere to specific behavioral intervention strategies for students with disabilities.
  • Willingness to undergo training in First Aid/CPR and apply nonviolent crisis intervention techniques.
  • Assist students with boarding and disembarking from transportation.
  • Supervise students during lunch and recess periods.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the classroom teacher, school principal, or Director of Student Services.

CONTRACT LENGTH: Academic year

SALARY AND BENEFITS:
