Education Assistant for Students with Disabilities

Job Summary:
Under the direct supervision of a classroom teacher and the guidelines stated in the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP), provide a variety of support duties related to delivering a sound academic program and maintaining a healthy, safe, and supportive school environment for children with special needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement IEP programs and follow specific behavior intervention program requirements for students with disabilities.
- Provide support to students with disabilities in academic and non-academic settings.
- Assist students with getting on and off the school bus.
- Supervise students during playground and lunchroom activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher, principal, or Director of Student Services.
Requirements:
- Associate degree, 60 credits, or Paraprofessional examination.
- Ability to relate and communicate with children, teachers, parents, and other professionals.
- May be required to facilitate medical needs of students.
- People skills sufficient for prolonged and effective contact with students with disabilities.
- Experience working with students with special needs.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear (in a quiet or noisy environment). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
