General Overview
The Special Education Paraprofessional plays a crucial role in supporting the educational framework established by the Michigan School Public Relations Association. This position involves assisting educators in both instructional and non-instructional tasks. Performance will be assessed by the school principal. The responsibilities outlined below are indicative of the primary functions associated with this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver individualized or group academic support, remediation, or guided practice aligned with the teacher's lesson plans.
- Execute behavior intervention strategies for students, including data collection, incident reporting, and implementing reward systems under teacher supervision.
- Oversee and engage students during unstructured times such as arrival, lunch, and recess.
- Gather and summarize data on student progress towards IEP goals as directed by classroom teachers.
- Aid in the creation, upkeep, and modification of instructional materials as needed.
- Maintain attendance records and perform clerical duties as assigned by the teacher.
- Support the integration of instructional technology in the classroom.
- Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of classroom resources in accordance with district guidelines.
- Supervise students in various instructional settings as directed by teachers.
- Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by teachers or administrative staff.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
- Proficiency in using basic office and audiovisual tools is essential.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Ability to work effectively with students across various developmental stages is necessary.
- Familiarity with basic computer applications, including word processing, is preferred.
- Capability to implement lesson plans for individuals or small groups and adapt them as necessary.
- Physical ability to manage equipment and assist students as needed.
- Willingness to participate in relevant training programs.
- Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder is highly desirable.
