Position: Senior-Level Scientist - Satellite Applications

We are seeking highly skilled individuals to contribute to our Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR). This role offers the opportunity to work on challenging projects with a team of experienced professionals, leveraging your expertise in satellite data analysis and processing.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead small teams in executing project tasks effectively.
  • Collaborate with engineers in designing and developing software systems for satellite applications.
  • Create calibration tools and interfaces to ensure accurate data processing.
  • Maintain the highest standards of quality for satellite instrument data and products.
  • Work with a variety of satellite instruments, including those from the JPSS and GOES-R series.
  • Integrate software codes for instrument calibration and validation processes.
  • Contribute to software development and system administration tasks.
  • Propose innovative system design concepts to enhance performance and efficiency.
Required Skills:
  • 6-11 years of experience in the field of satellite applications.
  • Proven expertise in instrument calibration and validation techniques.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as FORTRAN, C/C++, Java, Python, IDL, and MatLab.
  • Familiarity with data formats like netCDF and HDF.
  • Strong software configuration and system administration skills.
  • Knowledge of radiative transfer principles and/or AI/Machine Learning methodologies.
Education:

Bachelor's degree in atmospheric science, physical science, computer science, or a related field.
