We have positions available to support our mental health initiatives within the Mood, Emotions, and Relationships (MERS) Pathway.

This is a pivotal moment as we implement needs-driven pathways and invest in professional development opportunities for our workforce. Our commitment to delivering high-quality services aims to enhance the well-being of children and adolescents.

Key Responsibilities

As a Child and Adolescent Psychologist, you will provide exceptional psychological support to children and young people facing significant mental health challenges, along with their families. You will utilize advanced assessment skills and offer consultation to your team while contributing to broader service development.

Continuous professional development opportunities will be available to help you enhance your knowledge and skills or transition from another specialty. We encourage applications from candidates with diverse experiences and backgrounds.

You will receive regular clinical supervision and dedicated line management support. A structured job plan will be provided, along with opportunities to develop supervisory and leadership skills while engaging in research and service improvement initiatives. Our network of Clinical Psychologists is strong and collaborative, fostering shared professional development and support. We maintain excellent partnerships with local educational institutions for training and placement opportunities.

The Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD) initiative is a collaboration of NHS organizations dedicated to improving health outcomes for children and adolescents in the region.

CFHD offers integrated care and treatment for young individuals across both physical and mental health domains. We work closely with various organizations to ensure comprehensive access to our services, guided by the i-Thrive Framework, based on feedback from our service users and communities.

Job Requirements

As a qualified Child and Adolescent Psychologist, you will possess a strong commitment to working with children, young people, and their families. You will have the expertise to deliver evidence-based psychological therapies that are monitored for outcomes. A reflective practice approach and the ability to contribute effectively to a multi-disciplinary team are essential. You will prioritize service user participation and collaborative efforts with children, young people, parents, and families. A solid understanding of safeguarding principles is required, along with a willingness to develop skills in supervision and training, as well as clinical leadership to enhance service quality.

Pathway Information

Mood, Emotions, and Relationships Pathway

In this pathway, Child and Adolescent Psychologists work within a robust multi-disciplinary team, providing assessments and therapeutic interventions for children facing severe and chronic mental health issues, including depression and anxiety disorders.

You will engage with children, young people, and their families to understand their experiences and concerns, enabling you to deliver appropriate evidence-based interventions.

Opportunities for consultation, clinical supervision, and training will be available, along with involvement in service development and research initiatives to foster leadership skills.

The multi-disciplinary teams include Clinical Psychologists, Systemic Psychotherapists, Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists, CBT Therapists, Psychiatrists, Speech and Language Therapists, and Mental Health Practitioners from diverse professional backgrounds.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • A Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or an equivalent qualification if obtained prior to 1996.
  • Active registration as a Practitioner Psychologist with the HCPC.

Desirable:

  • Post-qualification specialist training in therapy or assessment relevant to children and young people.
  • Experience in supervision or equivalent training.

Experience

Essential:

  • Experience collaborating with service users and their families, utilizing goal-based care and routine outcome measures.
  • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team and across various agencies.
  • Experience managing complex needs while maintaining professionalism in challenging situations.
  • Experience conducting specialized psychological assessments and providing evidence-based interventions.
  • Experience in teaching and training.
  • Experience in safeguarding children and ensuring their safety in collaboration with other agencies.
  • Experience demonstrating an understanding of diversity and promoting anti-discriminatory practices.
  • Experience handling emotionally distressing information and seeking support as needed.

Desirable:

  • Experience using neuropsychological assessments in the context of learning disabilities.
  • Experience assessing capacity to consent and providing consultation on capacity assessments.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Essential:

  • Understanding of relevant legislation regarding children.
  • High-level knowledge of clinical presentations in children and young people.
  • Ability to travel and work in various settings, including clinics, schools, and home visits.
