Exeter, Devon, United Kingdom Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

Are you a recent graduate in Psychology eager to acquire supervised experience in clinical settings focused on Stroke Rehabilitation? If you are enthusiastic about contributing to a transformative initiative aimed at enhancing the Psychological Workforce and improving outcomes for stroke survivors, this role may be the perfect fit for you. This position offers an excellent opportunity to cultivate the specialized skills necessary for your professional growth within a forward-thinking Trust that boasts research-active teams and established collaborations across various agencies.

Role Responsibilities

For detailed information regarding the Job Description and Responsibilities, please refer to the link provided below.

Detailed Role Information

The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has received Stroke Catalyst Funding from NHSE to pilot a novel Psychology workforce model that collaborates with the Stroke Association and Talking Therapies services throughout the Northern and Eastern Devon Stroke Pathways. This role presents an exciting opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team dedicated to providing care for stroke patients and their families.

As a Clinical Psychology Assistant associated with the Community Stroke Services, you will support the efforts of Practitioner Psychologists who conduct specialized Psychological and Neuropsychological assessments and interventions for patients and their families. Your responsibilities will encompass a variety of tasks, including psychological evaluations, formulation development, conducting individual therapy sessions, and assessing the need for group therapy interventions. You will play a vital role in the psychological care of patients and assist in the overall evaluation of the service, which includes administering outcome measures, engaging in research, and contributing to service development.

This position will be fully supported and supervised by Specialist Practitioner Psychologists. Additional professional connections will be established within the Clinical Health Psychology and Neuropsychology Services network, which provides support to the Northern and Eastern Devon region. We are dedicated to helping Assistant Psychologists develop the skills, knowledge, and experience necessary for their future careers.

Ideal candidates should possess some experience in clinical services or related fields that support individuals with neurological or chronic health conditions.

Training and development opportunities are abundant here. We are committed to assisting Assistant Psychologists in enhancing their skills, knowledge, and experience to aid their future career aspirations. This position will appeal to those looking to gain further experience as they work towards postgraduate Practitioner Psychology training.

Innovation is a core principle of the Stroke and Neuro-rehabilitation services at the Royal Devon, exemplified by the implementation of various new initiatives and the creation of non-traditional roles in recent years, including a Research and Innovation Lead, Consultant AHPs, ACP, and FCP roles. This Catalyst pilot project is another example of innovation aimed at addressing the psychological needs of stroke survivors and their families, working alongside existing multidisciplinary teams to optimize clinical outcomes and achieve cost savings in overall service delivery. The service will undergo comprehensive evaluation to inform future service development and business planning.

About the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust was established in April, merging the expertise of both the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust and Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust.

Our Mission

Covering Northern, Eastern, and Mid Devon, we employ over staff, making us the largest employer in Devon. Our core services cater to more than individuals, spanning over 2, square miles across Devon, while some of our specialized services extend throughout the peninsula, reaching as far as Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

We provide a comprehensive range of emergency, specialized, and general medical services through North Devon District Hospital and the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (Wonford). In addition to our two acute hospitals, we offer integrated health and social care services across various settings, including community inpatient hospitals, outpatient clinics, and home care services. We also provide primary care services, a variety of specialized community services, and Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARC).

Our advanced equipment, leading-edge technologies, and strong partnerships with local universities position us at the forefront of research and innovation, enabling us to deliver world-class care to our local communities.

We are committed to fostering a culture that nurtures and supports you and your team.
