Role Overview

The Project Delivery Talent Pool is dedicated to providing skilled project professionals to our regional teams, facilitating a variety of projects globally. This includes large-scale implementations of our OSP solutions in partner facilities, as well as the introduction of new products and enhancements to existing systems.

As the Site Installation Supervisor, you will take the lead on-site for the deployment of Grid Structures and Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE) at our partners' automated facilities, including CFCs and Distribution Centres (DCs). Your role will involve planning installation activities and refining our operational processes.

Your responsibilities will include managing installation contractors and internal teams, coordinating all activities on-site, and acting as Ocado's representative with the partner's general contractor. You will prioritize safety and ensure that installation work meets high-quality standards. Your background in engineering and contractor management will be crucial in delivering projects on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards, while also embracing innovative solutions across our expanding network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the installation of grid structures and MHE in automated facilities, ensuring adherence to budget, quality, safety, and scheduling requirements.
  • Lead and manage project stakeholders and suppliers, maintaining a presence on-site for teams of approximately 200 personnel over a project duration of 6-14 months.
  • Manage a diverse team, fostering individual development and setting clear objectives.
  • Act as the primary point of contact on-site, representing Ocado with partner counterparts and their contractors.
  • Ensure effective safety protocols are in place and adhered to on-site.
  • Develop comprehensive installation plans that consider buildability and access.
  • Manage the installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of MHE, ensuring high-quality outcomes.
  • Establish Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) and conduct health and safety risk assessments.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain teams to select suitable installation contractors.
  • Conduct quality checks of installed structures and MHE, including working at height as necessary.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with MHE installations and anticipate engineering challenges.
  • Assist in planning and scheduling multiple work packages and contractors on-site.
  • Communicate technical issues and seek resolutions from relevant engineering teams.
  • Build strong relationships with contractors and peers, contributing to a collaborative work environment.
  • Contribute to the development of best practices for project delivery.
  • Document lessons learned throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven experience in managing complex, high-value installations, utilizing project management methodologies.
  • Experience in Construction Site Management, overseeing large teams of contractors.
  • Background in mechanical installation of structural steel, pallet racking, or Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS).
  • Experience in managing the installation and commissioning of automation equipment or conveyor systems.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations related to high-risk activities, including working at height and confined spaces.
  • Strong understanding of construction and engineering compliance legislation.
  • Ability to work with legal teams on construction standards and risk mitigation.
  • Experience managing high-value contracts with significant labor components.
  • Formal project management qualification is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • HSE competency certification for access to construction sites.
