Role Overview

The Project Delivery Talent Pool is dedicated to providing skilled project professionals to our regional teams, facilitating a diverse array of projects worldwide. This includes the large-scale deployment of our OSP solutions in partner facilities, the launch of new products, and enhancements to existing systems.

As the Site Installation Supervisor, you will serve as Ocado's primary representative on-site, overseeing the implementation of Grid Structures and Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE) at our partners' automated facilities, including CFCs and Distribution Centres (DCs). Your role will involve planning installation activities and optimizing our operational processes.

Your responsibilities will include managing installation contractors and internal teams, coordinating all activities on-site, liaising with the partner's general contractor, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, and delivering high-quality installations. Your expertise in technical, engineering, and contractor management will be crucial in ensuring that installations are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. You will be at the forefront of implementing innovative solutions and technologies across our expanding network of sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the installation of grid structures and MHE in automated facilities, ensuring compliance with contractor costs, installation methods, quality standards, safety protocols, and timelines.
  • Lead and manage project stakeholders, suppliers, and a workforce of approximately 200 personnel on-site for extended periods.
  • Directly manage a diverse team, fostering individual development and setting clear objectives.
  • Inspire and motivate your team, demonstrating a commitment to their professional growth.
  • Act as the primary contact and representative for Ocado with partner contractors.
  • Ensure safety standards are upheld on the construction site.
  • Develop effective installation plans that consider buildability and accessibility.
  • Manage the installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of MHE, adhering to stringent budgets and timelines.
  • Establish Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) by implementing best practices.
  • Conduct and update relevant Health and Safety Risk Assessments.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain teams to select appropriate installation contractors.
  • Perform quality checks on installed structural grids and MHE, including working at height when necessary.
  • Identify and mitigate MHE risks while anticipating engineering challenges.
  • Assist in planning and scheduling multiple work packages and contractors on-site.
  • Prioritize and resolve engineering issues, effectively communicating technical details to relevant teams.
  • Summarize technical challenges and commercial options for senior management review.
  • Build strong relationships with contractors and peers, fostering collaboration.
  • Contribute to the development of best practices for project delivery.
  • Document and log lessons learned throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven experience managing complex, high-value installations, utilizing project management methodologies.
  • Experience in Construction Site Management, overseeing large teams of contractors.
  • Background in mechanical installation of structural steel, pallet racking, or ASRS systems.
  • Experience in managing the installation and commissioning of automation equipment or conveyor systems.
  • Familiarity with high-risk activities, including working at height and confined spaces.
  • Strong understanding of construction and engineering compliance and safety regulations.
  • Ability to work with legal teams on construction standards and risk mitigation.
  • Experience managing high-value contracts with significant labor components.
  • Formal project management qualification is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • HSE competency certification for access to construction sites.
