Compensation: £46,000 per annum

ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND

The Helen Bamber Foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to assisting asylum seekers, refugees, and victims of human trafficking, along with those affected by human rights violations. Our team comprises therapists, medical professionals, and legal experts renowned for their provision of therapeutic care, medical advice, legal protection, and practical assistance. We prioritize the safeguarding of vulnerable adults and children. The British Red Cross (BRC) operates within a global humanitarian network, providing support to individuals impacted by crises in the UK.

The Helen Bamber Foundation seeks a Clinical Psychologist to lead a new initiative in collaboration with the BRC. This partnership aims to enhance access to trauma-informed interventions for individuals escaping conflict, particularly those affected by the situation in Ukraine, as well as those who have experienced trafficking, torture, and other forms of human rights abuses. The BRC team, in conjunction with the Helen Bamber Foundation, will provide direct casework, psychological evaluations, and treatment support across two BRC Refugee Support service locations.

ROLE SUMMARY

As the Clinical Psychologist involved in this partnership, you will operate from two BRC Refugee Support services, becoming an integral part of the Helen Bamber Foundation team. Your responsibilities will encompass delivering specialized psychological assessments for both clinical and medico-legal purposes, offering evidence-based therapeutic interventions, facilitating referrals to local mental health services, and providing training to local mental health practitioners and non-clinical staff with significant client interaction.

Your role will also involve:

  • Providing trauma-focused treatment to individuals, particularly those affected by the Ukraine conflict.
  • Enhancing access to local healthcare services through triage and casework support.
  • Building the capacity of local healthcare providers to deliver trauma-focused treatment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Conduct specialized psychological assessments and deliver therapeutic interventions to clients of the BRC Refugee Support services.

- Monitor partnership activities and outcomes.

- Collaborate with the BRC's Senior Psychosocial Practitioner to develop training for local mental health providers.

- Assist in the preparation of medico-legal reports for clients.

- Engage in audits and research relevant to the partnership.

- Provide training in collaboration with the Director of Therapy.

- Supervise junior staff and liaise with other organizations regarding clinical care and policy.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

- Participate in annual performance reviews and personal development planning.

- Ensure compliance with Continuing Professional Development requirements.

- Stay updated with relevant literature and attend necessary training.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Essential Qualifications:

- Completion of a recognized doctoral-level training in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) with diverse clinical placements.

- Registration with HCPC as a practitioner psychologist.

Experience:

- Minimum of two years post-qualification clinical experience in relevant fields.

- Experience working with clients experiencing PTSD and other trauma-related disorders.

- Proficiency in delivering trauma-focused therapies such as CBT, EMDR, or Narrative Exposure Therapy.

Knowledge and Skills:

- Understanding of legal, political, and social issues in human rights and health sectors.

- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently.

Professional Qualities:

- Commitment to the objectives of the Helen Bamber Foundation.

- Understanding of trauma-informed practices.

Desirable Attributes:

- Experience in specialist trauma services and clinical supervision.

- Research skills and experience in manuscript preparation.
