Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Neonatal Charge Nurse to join our esteemed neonatal unit. This role is ideal for a qualified nurse with a specialization in neonatal care, who is eager to take on new challenges and further develop their leadership and management skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain current NMC registration and possess relevant post-registration experience.
  • Function as an integral member of the nursing team.
  • Deliver high-quality, holistic family-centered care to neonates and their families.
  • Foster a welcoming, nurturing, and secure environment for patients and their families.
  • Oversee unit management under the guidance of senior personnel.
  • Collaborate effectively with medical staff and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Implement and advance evidence-based care practices within the unit.

Experience in a neonatal setting is essential for this position.

Main Duties

  • Provide individualized nursing care tailored to the needs of neonates.
  • Evaluate the physical, psychological, and social needs of neonates requiring nursing support.
  • Serve as a role model for newly qualified nursing staff.
  • Supervise the development and maintenance of nursing care plans, including treatments assigned by medical professionals.
  • Integrate care and interventions from various disciplines into comprehensive care plans.
  • Administer skilled nursing care and treatments informed by current research.
  • Plan and facilitate family involvement in care, educating and preparing them for the transition home.
  • Instruct parents on health maintenance at home and the development of parenting skills.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) or Registered Nurse (RN) in Child Health or Midwifery.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Experience in mentorship (ENB 998 / MIPS).
  • Neonatal Life Support (NLS) trained.
  • NMC Registered.

  • Effective teaching, training, and preceptorship skills.
