Birmingham, Birmingham, United Kingdom University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to enhance our dedicated team with the addition of a Senior Therapeutic Radiographer (Band 6). We are in search of enthusiastic, skilled, and proactive professionals who are committed to delivering exceptional patient care and contributing to service enhancement.

Our department is undergoing transformative changes, spearheaded by our new Head of Operational Workforce and Radiotherapy Lead Manager, who are implementing initiatives designed to support our outstanding Radiographers in their professional growth while fostering a culture of excellence and professionalism.

As a Senior Radiographer, you will receive personalized mentorship from our Band 7 and Band 8 colleagues, participating in department-led initiatives aimed at advancing your career aspirations.

The Radiotherapy service at our facility employs approximately 100 staff members and caters to around 4500 new patients annually, providing state-of-the-art radiotherapy treatments. Our commitment to high-quality service positions us as a leading department, delivering exemplary patient care alongside cutting-edge Radiotherapy technology, treating over 300 patients daily.

Successful candidates will join a team recognized for delivering a significant proportion of IG-IMRT treatments and managing a considerable number of SABR patients across all commissioned indications. We ensure that all breast patients receive SGRT, and DIBH is available for suitable patients diagnosed with left-sided breast cancer.

Key Responsibilities

As an experienced radiographer with established NHS clinical and supervisory expertise, you will support a Band 7 on a treatment unit and collaborate with a team of radiographers to provide safe and precise specialized radiotherapy treatments for patients.

Your responsibilities will include managing a clinical workload, ensuring that all treatments and procedures are executed safely and accurately while upholding high standards of technical proficiency and patient care. You will be expected to work at an advanced level, promoting best practices and offering expert advice, support, and guidance to junior staff and the multidisciplinary team.

Our department is equipped with a variety of specialized tools, including two Phillips CT scanners, CyberKnife, two Tomotherapy HD units, Radixact, HDR, and six Elekta linear accelerators, four of which are equipped with AlignRT technology. You will have the opportunity to rotate through various treatment rooms.

New staff members should be adaptable in their working hours to meet service demands, which may include covering extended hours from Monday to Friday until 8 PM, as well as working on bank holidays and occasional weekends.

You will also collaborate with the broader Band 7 team on operational matters within the department and staff-related issues, providing coaching support to help shape the development of junior staff.
