ROLE OBJECTIVE:

The Employee Relations Consultant serves as the primary resource for People Managers seeking advice, guidance, and coaching on individual employee relations matters and ongoing cases.

Collaborating closely with the relevant HR Business Partner, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our operational practices and decisions regarding employees adhere to applicable employment laws, HR policies, and procedures. Your counsel will be vital in minimizing business risks and ensuring that employees are managed in alignment with our core values.

This position will also assist the HR Business Partner with broader people-focused business initiatives and reporting as necessary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver proactive advice, support, and constructive challenge to line managers concerning employee relations cases.
  • Ensure that employee matters are addressed fairly and consistently, in compliance with legislation, HR best practices, and company policies.
  • Reduce and manage risk exposure to the organization through proactive oversight of employee relations cases.
  • Maintain the Employee Relations case tracker and produce monthly Employee Relations Management Information.
  • Analyze employee relations trends, issues, and areas of concern, offering options and solutions to support business needs.
  • Assist in the execution of organizational design projects, including redundancy, TUPE, and M&A activities as appropriate.
  • Contribute to the development and review of HR policies, ensuring their application aligns with current legislation and best practices.
  • Support recruitment efforts as needed.
  • Foster and maintain effective, collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure high standards of advice, challenge, and support.
  • Identify gaps in people management skills and knowledge, ensuring appropriate coaching and training interventions are provided to enable managers to handle a wide range of Employee Relations issues.
  • Collaborate with the training team to support the delivery of HR-focused training as required.
  • Uphold the first line of Risk/Compliance defense by ensuring adherence to business processes and procedures designed to meet regulatory standards.
  • Make informed risk decisions and engage in credible discussions regarding management recommendations in line with the approved Risk Management Framework.
  • Review and support the risks and controls assigned to the department.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • CIPD qualification or equivalent, or a willingness to pursue it.
  • Understanding of employment law and practices.
  • Proven ability to provide accurate guidance to management and staff on a broad spectrum of employment law matters.
  • Capability to devise a range of Employee Relations solutions for various cases, presenting pros and cons for each option and highlighting preferred recommendations based on a risk-assessed approach.
  • Awareness of business objectives, products, and processes.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to negotiate and influence up to senior management levels.
  • Ability to work independently, plan, prioritize, and organize tasks to achieve goals and meet deadlines, including managing competing demands and multiple cases.
  • Capacity to remain composed under pressure and demonstrate emotional resilience in challenging situations or conversations.
  • Advanced communication skills, both verbal and written.
