About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Specialist Paediatric Respiratory Physiotherapist at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will be embedded within the Hospital at Home team and will have the opportunity to develop their skills and expertise in respiratory physiotherapy.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality physiotherapy assessment and treatment to patients with long-term ventilation (LTV) and chronic respiratory conditions in their home environment. This will involve:

  • Developing and implementing treatment plans, including clear escalation and weaning plans, using advanced skills in respiratory physiotherapy devices and techniques.
  • Collaborating with the inpatient LTV/chronic respiratory physiotherapy team to provide respiratory physiotherapy support and advice.
  • Delivering education and training to patients, families, carers, schools, and healthcare professionals on respiratory physiotherapy techniques and devices.
  • Contribute to service development and improvement, including scoping current services, exploring research, and conducting regular service reviews and audits.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Essential
    • Degree in Physiotherapy/HCPC Registration
    • MSc in relevant subject or equivalent level of post-graduate specialist training
  • Desirable
    • Postgraduate course in management or leadership
    • Membership of relevant National SIG
Previous Experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • Essential
    • Extensive post-registration experience in respiratory physiotherapy management
    • Broad range of experience at Band 5 level, including respiratory, rehabilitation, and outpatients
    • Significant experience in a range of Paediatric Care at Band 6, including neuro, ortho, resp, developmental, community care, and musculoskeletal
  • Desirable
    • Previous experience at Band 7 in the relevant clinical area
    • Experience of formal presentations to MDT audiences
    • Previous experience in research and/or clinical audit
Skills

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Essential
    • Knowledge of a wide range of assessment and treatment techniques
    • Ability to teach in a range of settings
    • Remains updated with professional practice and new research
    • Competent IT skills, including word, spreadsheets, and PowerPoint
  • Desirable
    • Understanding of modes and weaning of long-term ventilation
    • Knowledge of nebulisers and a range of medications to optimise respiratory function

    • Able to carry out moderate to intense physical effort throughout the working day
    • Ability to cope with working in a stressful and unpredictable environment
