Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity exists for a Senior Respiratory Physiotherapy Specialist with demonstrated clinical expertise and a commitment to providing care for individuals with both acute and chronic respiratory ailments. This pivotal role within the respiratory physiotherapy team at Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospitals will involve contributing to patient care across various settings, including emergency services and outpatient clinics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the advanced assessment and treatment of patients experiencing stable and acute respiratory issues, including those with complex medical histories, ensuring accurate clinical diagnosis and appropriate treatment plans.
  • Oversee the training and development of physiotherapy staff, support workers, and students, enhancing their skills in managing respiratory conditions.
  • Provide effective leadership within the team, managing operations, fostering team development, and implementing policy changes to uphold high standards of practice.
  • Engage in evidence-based projects, leading departmental audits and quality improvement initiatives to enhance clinical practices.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Extensive experience at a senior level in diverse clinical environments, including critical care and respiratory rehabilitation.
  • Specialized knowledge in managing complex respiratory patients, including those requiring advanced ventilation support.
  • Proven experience in the physiotherapeutic management of chronic respiratory diseases.
  • Experience in clinical education and mentorship within a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable:

  • Background in research methodologies and practices.
  • Prior experience in a senior role within a respiratory care setting.

Skills

Essential:

  • Advanced clinical reasoning and a comprehensive understanding of holistic management strategies for complex respiratory patients.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team, focusing on goal-oriented care pathways.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and quality assurance processes relevant to physiotherapy services.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present information clearly.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with current national policies and standards in respiratory care.
  • Proficient in IT skills, including data management and report writing.

Educational Background

Essential:

  • Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy.
  • Postgraduate qualifications relevant to the specialty.
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective practice.

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate qualifications such as an MSc in Respiratory Care.
  • Management or leadership training.
  • Membership in relevant professional organizations.
