Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic physiotherapist to join our team as a Pulmonary Rehabilitation Specialist. This is a leadership role that requires a strong background in respiratory physiotherapy, with a focus on pulmonary rehabilitation and integrated respiratory care.

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Service: Develop and implement a comprehensive pulmonary rehabilitation program, ensuring high-quality care for patients with chronic respiratory conditions.
  • Advanced Assessment and Treatment: Provide expert assessment and treatment of stable and acutely ill patients with chronic respiratory problems, including those with complex presentations.
  • Team Leadership and Supervision: Supervise and mentor physiotherapists, physiotherapy assistants, and students, providing guidance on respiratory physiotherapy care and treatment.
  • Operational Management: Oversee the operational management of the respiratory physiotherapy team, ensuring effective use of resources and high-quality patient care.
  • Research and Audit: Participate in departmental research and audit, contributing to the development of evidence-based practice in respiratory physiotherapy.
  • Specialist Assessment and Treatment: Conduct specialist assessments, carry out diagnostic procedures, and interpret results for patients with multifaceted respiratory and/or rehabilitation problems.
  • Individualized Physiotherapy Management: Formulate, evaluate, and reassess individualized physiotherapy management and treatment plans, utilizing clinical reasoning skills and a wide range of treatment options.
  • Advice and Guidance: Provide advice on specialized physiotherapy care and treatment for patients with respiratory problems, consulting with junior team members and other healthcare professionals as needed.
  • Clinical Governance and Risk Management: Demonstrate a sound understanding of clinical governance and clinical risk, ensuring the use of evidence-based treatment plans and maintaining accurate written records.
Person Specification
  • Education and Qualification: HCPC registration and degree in physiotherapy, with evidence of continuing professional development relevant to respiratory physiotherapy.
  • Leadership and Management Experience: Significant experience at Band 6 level in a broad range of settings, including critical care, surgery, medicine, and rehabilitation, with leadership and/or management training.
  • Experience in Respiratory Physiotherapy: Significant experience in the physiotherapy management of COPD and other chronic respiratory diseases, with experience of managing/supervising band 5 or 6/students/PTI/PTA.
  • Desirable Qualifications and Experience: Band 7 experience in a respiratory setting, specialist knowledge of relevant respiratory physiotherapy principles, and understanding of clinical governance and the implications for physiotherapy services.
