Job Summary

The Planning Support Manager will play a key role in supporting the Planning Team in the West region of Forestry and Land Scotland. The successful candidate will provide expert support and mentoring to the team of seven planning foresters, focusing on the development of Land Management Plans and analyzing the implications of proposals within these plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and guidance to the planning team on land management planning and forest operations.
  • Analyze and understand the implications of proposals in Land Management Plans, ensuring compliance with UKFS regulations.
  • Negotiate with stakeholders to ensure effective collaboration and decision-making.
  • Work closely with other teams and stakeholders to design economically sustainable forests, adapting to climate change and enhancing landscapes.
  • Prepare and facilitate resilient land management plans, mapping out future felling, replanting, road building, and other key activities in each forest area.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience in forest operations, forest or land management, with a focus on land management planning.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to negotiate and collaborate with stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a focus on delivering high-quality results.
