Sarah Raven stands as the leading ecommerce gardening brand in the UK, dedicated to infusing beauty, vibrancy, and joy into every garden. We provide a curated selection of plants, seeds, bulbs, and gardening tools, alongside delightful home products, all personally chosen by Sarah Raven, a renowned author and broadcaster.

In light of our recent digital transformation and acquisitions, we are in search of a Finance Director to join our executive leadership team, playing a pivotal role in supporting our growth objectives.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of financial and commercial strategies to facilitate Sarah Raven's growth aspirations.
  • Oversee the profitability of the organization at both total and unit levels, providing insights and crafting strategies for ongoing enhancement in collaboration with other teams.
  • Manage tax obligations, compliance, and corporate structuring.
  • Be accountable for financial processes, performance reporting and analysis, cash management, strategic planning, as well as legal and risk management operations.
  • Ensure the establishment of robust processes, controls, and systems to support scalability, by setting and monitoring KPIs across the organization and collaborating with various departments to achieve performance targets.
  • Maintain relationships with banks, accountants, auditors, lawyers, and other professional advisors, ensuring utmost transparency and control.
  • Engage actively in discussions with current and prospective shareholders, including preparation and management of any due diligence processes.
  • Lead, inspire, and develop a small finance team.

Commercial Analysis & Unit Economics

  • Prepare management accounts, develop budgets and forecasts for the organization, and monitor performance against plans while maintaining a strong focus on unit economics to ensure future growth is profitable and enhances shareholder value.
  • Conduct unit economics analysis in collaboration with key business areas to continuously identify improvement opportunities and implement controls to prevent overspending.
  • Drive the continuous enhancement of unit economics through consistent performance analysis and reporting to the executive team and the Board, identifying issues and proposing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Provide commercial support and modeling for future growth initiatives and projects across the organization.

Finance, Compliance & Planning

  • Oversee financial modeling and analysis, formulating data-driven strategies and insights.
  • Manage payroll and payment processes.
  • Develop and enforce finance policies, ensuring high accounting standards and consistent governance while driving improvements in financial processes throughout the organization.
  • Determine financial and business KPIs in collaboration with the CEO and executive team to ensure departments consistently meet their objectives.
  • Prepare management accounts, budgets, and forecasts for the organization, monitoring performance against established plans.
  • Ensure sustainable cash flow, providing regular cash updates to the board and other stakeholders.
  • Guarantee compliance with statutory laws and financial regulations, holding full responsibility for maintaining accurate financial controls and processes, ensuring efficient and timely financial management and statutory reporting.
  • Report effectively to the CEO and the Board on all financial and legal matters, financial performance, and recommend corrective actions where necessary.

Required Skills:

  • A strong leader with proven experience in an online consumer business.
  • Demonstrable experience as a business partner and financial controller, adding value in collaboration with other teams and leaders.
  • A qualified accountant with exceptional analytical and modeling capabilities.
  • An operational business builder with strong change management skills and a track record of enhancing operational efficiencies.
  • Experience in a highly analytical and data-driven environment, capable of interpreting data to understand business performance and support data-based decision-making.
  • Ideally, experience working with institutional investors.
  • Experience in establishing and managing scalable financial systems and processes for forecasting, budgeting, and reporting.
  • A hands-on approach that aligns with our organizational values.

Compensation package will be commensurate with experience.
