Executive Leader for Industrial Growth

Position Overview
The Chief Executive for Industrial Development will spearhead the formulation and execution of a comprehensive strategy aimed at enhancing the supply capabilities of the UK economy.
This role will articulate how the nation can thrive in a multifaceted global marketplace characterized by rising geopolitical challenges. The successful candidate will need to adeptly navigate macroeconomic trends such as digital transformation, demographic shifts, and environmental sustainability. It is crucial to leverage the UK's competitive strengths in sectors including advanced manufacturing, creative industries, green technologies, and financial services.
The strategy must be crafted in collaboration with the business sector, providing them with the clarity and assurance necessary for making long-term investments. The Chief Executive will utilize both internal and publicly accessible data to generate actionable insights.
Key Responsibilities
The Chief Executive will collaborate with academic institutions to analyze historical successes and failures. They will also draw insights from international examples, utilizing the expertise of Trade Commissioners and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) network.
This initiative will require cross-departmental cooperation. The Industrial Strategy is integral to the broader economic growth mission. The Chief Executive will work closely with HM Treasury, particularly with the Director General focused on growth, to harness existing coordination and foster a collective sense of ownership across various prosperity departments. Effective collaboration will be paramount.
Candidate Profile
- Demonstrated personal credibility in engaging with senior business executives, coupled with exceptional influencing and interpersonal abilities.
- Proven capability to operate across central government and within complex organizational structures, devising and executing investment strategies that enhance productivity.
- A collaborative leadership approach, skilled in transcending departmental boundaries and cultivating alliances at all levels, while leading with intent among peers.
- A history of guiding high-performing teams to achieve results in challenging, intricate, and uncertain environments.
- Experience in shaping economic policy through collaboration with central government entities.
- A visionary mindset, adept at utilizing data, historical context, and international case studies to pinpoint significant opportunities for innovative policy development.
Compensation and Benefits
In addition to a competitive salary of £130,000, the Department for Business and Trade contributes £35,100 towards membership in the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
