Key Responsibilities:


• As a Lead Financial Crime Risk Strategist at Metro Bank, you will collaborate with senior leaders and their respective departments, overseeing their financial crime exposures and ensuring a strong control framework that aligns with the bank's risk tolerance.


• Partner with our executive team to facilitate the proactive identification, evaluation, management, monitoring, and reporting of financial crime risks within Metro Bank.


• Play a pivotal role in establishing a comprehensive 1st Line of Defence (LoD) Financial Crime risk and control structure, in accordance with the bank's policies, standards, and defined risk appetite.


• Actively engage with your business unit to manage financial crime risks, providing insights and assessments on risk profiles related to anti-money laundering, sanctions, and fraud, as well as areas under increasing regulatory focus such as anti-tax evasion, anti-corruption/bribery, and modern slavery.


• Offer expert Financial Crime risk counsel to the business to ensure that financial crime threats and vulnerabilities are documented alongside a robust control framework.


• Lead financial crime risk assessments and assurance activities to verify that systems, controls, and processes adhere to policy, effectively mitigating risks.


• Collaborate closely with the 2nd LoD Financial Crime Policy Team to translate policies and standards into practical systems, processes, and training initiatives.


• Present financial crime risk performance metrics through various first- and second-line governance committees.

Required Qualifications:


• Significant leadership experience in financial services within a financial crime capacity (1st or 2nd LoD), with a solid understanding of banking products, processes, risk management frameworks, and non-financial risks along with their supporting controls.


• A comprehensive understanding of digital banking and product management.


• Proven experience in collaborating with senior stakeholders to implement and facilitate risk management processes, with the ability to present and influence effectively.


• Demonstrated expertise in Financial Crime, including knowledge of risk management frameworks and processes such as RCSA, IUMs, Thematic Risk Reviews, and risk reporting to governance committees, alongside a solid grasp of the regulatory landscape concerning Financial Crime compliance.


• Skilled in applying expert judgment to make informed risk-based decisions.


• Capability to define and evaluate compliance with risk policies and standards, with experience in planning, leading, and conducting risk assessments and in-depth reviews.


• Proficient in designing and executing effective risk processes and ongoing enhancements that meet the demands of daily risk management and governance.


• Ideally, some familiarity with banking products and digital banking.


• Exceptional relationship and stakeholder management abilities at a senior level, fostering constructive dialogue and challenge.


• Experience in communicating risk insights and perspectives with colleagues across the organization, along with expertise in risk reporting, management information, and presentations.


• A clear understanding of the risks associated with your role and their implications for you, Metro Bank, and all stakeholders.
