Key Responsibilities:

  • As a Lead Financial Crime Risk Strategist, you will collaborate with senior stakeholders across various business units to manage financial crime threats and ensure a strong control framework aligned with the bank's risk appetite.
  • Partner with senior leadership to proactively identify, assess, manage, monitor, and report on financial crime risks affecting Metro Bank.
  • Drive the establishment of a comprehensive 1st Line of Defence (LoD) Financial Crime risk and control framework that adheres to the bank's policies and standards.
  • Work closely with your business area to manage financial crime risks, providing insights and opinions on risk profiles related to anti-money laundering, sanctions, fraud, and other regulatory concerns.
  • Offer expert Financial Crime risk guidance to ensure that threats and risks are documented alongside a solid control framework.
  • Lead financial crime risk review and assurance activities to confirm compliance with policies and mitigate potential risks.
  • Collaborate with the 2nd LoD Financial Crime Policy Team to translate policies into practical systems, processes, and training.
  • Report on financial crime risk performance through various governance committees.

Required Qualifications:

  • Significant leadership experience in financial services, particularly in financial crime roles (1st or 2nd LoD), with a solid understanding of banking products, processes, and risk management frameworks.
  • Familiarity with digital banking and product management.
  • Proven experience in business partnering with senior stakeholders to implement risk management processes, with strong presentation and influencing skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial crime risk management frameworks, including RCSA, IUMs, Thematic Risk Reviews, and risk reporting to governance committees.
  • Ability to apply expert judgment in making risk-based decisions.
  • Experience in defining and assessing compliance with risk policies and standards, including planning and leading risk assessments.
  • Capability to design and maintain effective risk processes that meet day-to-day management and governance requirements.
  • Strong relationship and stakeholder management skills at a senior level, fostering constructive debate and challenge.
  • Experience in communicating risk insights and opinions across the organization, including risk reporting and presentations.
  • Understanding of the risks associated with this role and their implications for Metro Bank and its stakeholders.
