The Role

We invite applications for a Research Fellow in Organizational Behavior and Leadership to contribute to a project titled "Sweating it out for a good purpose: Scaling up mass participation sports events in sustainable ways." This project seeks to explore key factors influencing participation in running events, including runners' motivations and differences across demographics. Additionally, it will investigate the effects of physical activity on well-being, resilience, and social perceptions in the workplace and beyond. The project emphasizes sustainability and aims to encourage behavioral changes among runners. Your expertise will be instrumental in shaping the research agenda and translating findings into real-world impact.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Principal Investigator, Dr. Maria Kakarika, and the project partner, as well as the academic project team. This role is funded by Durham University Business School's Smart & Scale initiative, an interdisciplinary research program focused on innovation and business development for SMEs in the North-East of England.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Principal Investigator and colleagues to develop, pilot, and launch new research initiatives.
  • Assist in formulating research objectives and proposals.
  • Conduct individual and collaborative research projects under the guidance of the Principal Investigator.
  • Facilitate the publication of high-quality outputs, including submissions to peer-reviewed journals and presentations at conferences.
  • Address challenges that may impact research objectives and deadlines by proposing innovative solutions.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations on research findings to diverse audiences.
  • Engage with research colleagues and establish connections for future collaboration.
  • Plan and manage research activities and resources in collaboration with others.
  • Contribute to fostering a collegial and respectful working environment that is inclusive and welcoming.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities through teaching programs or departmental committees.
This position is fixed-term for 24 months and may not be extendable based on the project timeline.

The successful applicant is expected to start by November 2024.
