Role and Department Details

We are looking to appoint a Grade 6 Research Assistant for a funded initiative focused on the utilization of baby carriers and slings within the UK. The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Designing and executing a systematic review of relevant research.
  • Creating and administering online surveys targeting families and practitioners.
  • Critically assessing existing guidelines and providing actionable recommendations.
This position is time-sensitive due to external funding, with the possibility of full-time (35 hours per week) or part-time (minimum 17.5 hours per week) work arrangements.

The successful applicant will join the Durham Infancy & Sleep Centre, collaborating with an award-winning research team dedicated to impactful projects related to infant sleep and the prevention of unexpected infant fatalities.

Durham Infancy & Sleep Centre

The Centre is part of the Department of Anthropology & Faculty of Social Sciences, hosting a team of researchers exploring various dimensions of infant and child sleep as well as parenting behaviors. Our research has significantly enhanced parental understanding of infant sleep practices and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute daily project operations under the guidance of the DISC Manager and Director.
  • Communicate complex information effectively through presentations and discussions.
  • Document research findings and present progress to supervising bodies.
  • Conduct basic research by applying existing methodologies in context.
  • Address challenges impacting research objectives by proposing innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate with research colleagues and build relationships for future projects.
  • Contribute to the planning and management of research initiatives.
  • Support student projects involving research methods and equipment.
  • Promote a collegial and respectful workplace culture.
  • Engage in professional development through relevant training opportunities.
This position is funded for a fixed term, either full-time for 6 months or part-time for up to 12 months, through external funding sources.
