Role and Department

We are looking to appoint a Grade 6 Research Assistant for a funded initiative focusing on the utilization of baby carriers and slings within the UK. Responsibilities will include:
  • Designing and executing a systematic review of existing research.
  • Conducting online surveys targeting families and practitioners.
  • Critically assessing current guidelines and providing actionable recommendations.
The successful candidate will join the Durham Infancy & Sleep Centre, collaborating with an award-winning research team engaged in impactful projects related to infant sleep and the prevention of unexpected infant fatalities.

DISC is a prominent research hub within the Department of Anthropology & Faculty of Social Sciences, dedicated to exploring various facets of infant and child sleep, as well as parenting behaviors. Our extensive research over the past three decades has significantly enhanced parental understanding of infant sleep safety and care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and manage daily project operations under the guidance of the DISC Manager and Director.
  • Effectively communicate complex information through presentations and discussions.
  • Document research findings and present progress reports to relevant stakeholders.
  • Analyze research methodologies and apply them according to project objectives.
  • Address challenges impacting research goals by collaborating with the DISC Manager and Director.
  • Build relationships with research colleagues and external contacts to enhance collaborative opportunities.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of research projects.
  • Support student projects involving research methods and equipment.
  • Promote a collegial and inclusive working environment.
  • Engage in professional development through relevant training opportunities.
This position is funded for a fixed term, either full-time for 6 months or part-time for up to 12 months, supported by external funding sources.
