Role Summary:
The Department of Anthropology at Durham University is seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our team. The successful candidate will work on a research project focused on ecological sustainability and indigenous ontologies, with a specific emphasis on cultural transmission and ecological knowledge.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct high-quality academic research in the field of ecological sustainability and indigenous ontologies.
- Develop and implement research designs and proposals in collaboration with other academics.
- Analyze mixed qualitative-quantitative data on cultural transmission and ecological knowledge.
- Present research papers at international conferences and communicate complex information to specialists and within the wider academic community.
- Work cooperatively as part of a team, including participating in research meetings.
- Manage independent research and meet strict deadlines.
Requirements:
- A good first degree in Anthropology, Psychology, Biology, or a related subject.
- A PhD (or be close to submission) in Anthropology, Psychology, Biology, or a related subject.
- Experience in conducting high-quality academic research.
- Demonstrable ability to write material of a quality commensurate with publication in highly-ranked journals.
- Demonstrable ability to present research papers at international conferences and communicate complex information to specialists and within the wider academic community.
- Experience in quantitative analysis of cultural or ecological datasets.
Desirable Criteria:
- Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals, commensurate with stage of career.
- A track record of presenting research at conferences, symposia, or meetings, commensurate with stage of career.
- Demonstrable ability to develop research proposals and designs in collaboration with other academics.
- Experience or knowledge in the areas of ecological sustainability and/or indigenous ontologies, including traditional ecological knowledge.
- Experience with collection of qualitative primary data in the form of interviews, archives, surveys, freelists, and other anthropological data collection techniques.
- Experience and/or interest in evolutionary and network theories for cultural transmission.
