About the Role

The Department of Engineering at Durham University is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our team. As a key member of our research group, you will be responsible for conducting high-quality academic research in the field of AI and smart grids.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:
  • Conduct research in AI and smart grids, with a focus on developing innovative methods and tools for facilitating virtual power plants in smart grids.
  • Support Professor Hongjian Sun in coordinating dissemination activities and engaging with academic, postdoctoral research, and technical support colleagues, as well as students, within and external to the Department.
  • Proactively engage with industry partners, academic institutions, and government organizations to ensure that activities are undertaken to an appropriate standard.
  • Contribute to the advancement of the project through the development of their own research ideas and adaptation and development of research protocols.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:
  • A good first degree in Electrical Engineering, Math, Built Environment, or Computer Science.
  • A PhD (or be close to submission) in Electrical Engineering, Math, Built Environment, or Computer Science or a related subject.
  • Experience in conducting high-quality academic research and demonstrable ability to write material of a quality commensurate with publication in highly-ranked journals.
  • Demonstrable ability to present research papers at international conferences and communicate complex information to specialists and within the wider academic community.
  • Experience in AI, virtual power plant, smart grid, or climate change impact analysis.
