The Department of Psychology

Established in 1952, the Department of Psychology is celebrated for its outstanding teaching and research capabilities. The department specializes in three primary research areas: Cognitive Neuroscience, Developmental Science, and Quantitative Social Psychology. We are particularly recognized for our expertise in virtual reality, multisensory perception, and developmental psychology. Our state-of-the-art facilities include advanced equipment for Virtual Reality, Movement Analysis, fMRI, TMS, tDCS, EEG/ERP, and eye movement tracking, alongside a dedicated motion capture lab.

Position Overview

We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) to join our innovative research project focused on developing a neurocognitive model of memory-guided visual attention. This role will involve collaboration with a dynamic team and will be directed by a leading researcher in the field.

The project aims to deepen our understanding of the cognitive and neural mechanisms underlying memory-guided visual attention. The successful candidate will utilize both behavioral and electrophysiological (EEG/ERP) methodologies to explore the characteristics of memory-based attentional templates and their selection processes. Access to a fully equipped EEG laboratory will be provided for the development and testing of novel experimental designs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Communicate complex technical material effectively to diverse audiences through presentations and discussions, contributing to research publications.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations on research findings to various stakeholders, including academic and non-academic audiences.
  • Publish high-quality research outputs in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at conferences.
  • Assist in the formulation of research objectives and proposals.
  • Conduct both independent and collaborative research projects under the guidance of the Principal Investigator.
  • Collect and analyze EEG data.
  • Collaborate with team members to identify research opportunities and develop innovative methodologies.
  • Address challenges impacting research goals by proposing creative solutions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with research colleagues for future collaborations.
  • Manage personal research activities and contribute to project planning.
  • Provide training in research techniques to peers and students.
  • Engage in student supervision and assessment as needed.
  • Promote a collegial and respectful work environment that values diversity and inclusion.
  • Participate in community engagement activities to support the department and discipline.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through teaching programs and departmental committees.
Contract Details

This is a fixed-term position for 24 months, funded through a prestigious grant. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute significantly to the research project while developing their own research ideas.
