This Clinical Research Associate position involves supporting the execution of the research study titled "BAY: Behavioural Activation for Young People with Depression in Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services". The study, funded by NIHR, aims to evaluate the effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, and acceptability of the Behavioural Activation (BA) intervention compared to treatment as usual (TAU) and TAU plus psychoeducation (PE) for newly referred adolescents experiencing depression.

Comprehensive training will be provided, covering all aspects of the trial, including protocol adherence, participant recruitment, data entry into trial databases, randomisation processes, and data collection methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

Operate independently while adhering to an established plan and under the guidance of the Principal Investigator within the Trust's R&D framework. Advocate for the trial among staff and service users, identifying and engaging potential participants. Manage inquiries from prospective participants and their representatives. Foster and maintain effective relationships with clinicians and administrative personnel within the CAMHS team. Utilize critical judgment to assess the eligibility of newly accepted referrals for the BAY trial based on patient records. Distribute Participant Information Packs to potentially eligible individuals, which include expression of interest forms, relevant information sheets, questionnaires, and consent forms. Conduct follow-up calls to confirm eligibility sensitively with parents or eligible patients who have received the Participant Information Pack.

Additional Responsibilities

Organize team briefings and deliver presentations regarding the study's nature and requirements as needed. Assist trial managers and team members in the overall execution of the study. Collaborate with study sponsors, clinicians, and research partners. Coordinate data collection efforts related to the research study. Maintain screening logs to document participant engagement and consent. Attend training and supervision sessions provided by the Central Management Team and supported by the site Principal Investigator. Enter and verify quantitative research data. Plan ahead to meet deadlines for study monitoring and milestones, including participant recruitment and data analysis. Contribute to the preparation of papers for publication during the dissemination of research findings. Ensure compliance with research governance, training, data protection, and ethical standards.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

A degree in health or social sciences.

Desirable:

A master's degree in health or social sciences.

Proven experience in recruiting and consenting participants within healthcare environments, along with delivering outcome measures. Experience working in a CAMHS setting or equivalent.

Desirable:

Demonstrated administrative experience. Experience in relevant research involving children and families.

Skills and Abilities:

Essential:

Ability to engage in multidisciplinary team discussions. Proficient computer skills, including database and internet proficiency. Capacity to educate and support colleagues, patients, and caregivers. Sensitivity to the diverse needs of children and families referred to CAMHS.

Knowledge and Understanding:

Essential:

Understanding of emotional disorders in children and adolescents.

Desirable:

Familiarity with research ethics and the process of obtaining informed consent.
