Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time

The successful candidate will work on a study investigating traumatic vascular injury (TVI) which is funded by a Project Grant from Brain Research UK ).

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. There is emerging evidence that TVI may contribute to the burden of injury, and that cerebral microbleeds (TMBs) detected on magnetic resonance (MRI) scans, are underrecognized markers of small adventitial TVI. This study will investigate early and late MRI in conjunction with blood biomarkers and novel measures of factors that may lead to coagulopathy which may be modifiable thought therapy in future clinical trials. The study represents a collaboration between investigators at the Universities of Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial College London and Aalborg University Hospital, Denmark. There may be opportunity to extend the post into work planned as part of other clinical trials in TBI.

The main responsibilities of this post will be to help analyse the imaging and other data. This job would suit a post-doc keen to get involved with data-analysis, statistical analysis and paper writing. There would also be opportunities for methods development and methodology focused papers. Our group is growing and has a number of projects occurring so there are opportunities to take part in and support many aspects depending on the successful candidates interests.

Data includes prospective data currently being collected on patients with severe TBI including 3T and 7T MRI, as well as access to large retrospective datasets.

Retrospective data includes cohorts from Cambridge and CENTER-TBI, a large collaborative European project with 60 participating centres from 20 countries ), including 4500 patients with traumatic brain injury.

The group is part of the TBI-REPORTER Platform (tbi-, Chief Investigator David Menon). This is MRC/NIHR/MoD/ARUK funded initiative aims to bring together all available research on TBI and make it accessible to scientists. There may be opportunity to contribute to the UK-wide collaborative imaging projects as part of this post.

This is a fixed term appointment until 30th June 2026 in first instance with a possible extension subject to funding.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD, or an equivalent research doctorate. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once PhD has been awarded.

This appointment requires a Letter of Access/Research Passport with Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.

We hope to interview week commencing 30th September 2024
