About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Anaesthesia Consultant to join our team at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. As a key member of our Anaesthetic Department, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our clinical services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Leadership
    • Provide clinical leadership and expertise in the provision of anaesthetic services, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care.
    • Participate in the development and implementation of clinical policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with Trust and national guidelines.
  • Teaching and Education
    • Contribute to the teaching and education of anaesthetic trainees, ensuring they receive high-quality training and development opportunities.
    • Develop and deliver educational programs for undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to provide high-quality patient care.
  • Clinical Governance
    • Participate in the clinical governance process, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and the identification of areas for improvement.
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical audit programs, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and the identification of areas for improvement.
  • Research and Development
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of research programs, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and the identification of areas for improvement.
    • Develop and deliver educational programs for undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to participate in research and development activities.
Person Specification

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Anaesthesia Consultant who possesses the following qualities:

  • Qualifications
    • Medical degree, MBBS or equivalent.
    • Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists or equivalent.
    • Full and Specialist registration for Anaesthesia; (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
  • Clinical Skills and Experience
    • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining CCT in Anaesthesia (or equivalent).
    • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of adult, maternity and paediatric patients.
    • ALS, ATLS provider.
  • Teaching Experience
    • Experience of teaching and training of undergraduates, medical and allied health professionals.
    • Ability to teach clinical skills to anaesthetic trainees of all levels, and achieving GMC standards to be recognised as a clinical supervisor.
  • Clinical Governance
    • Understand the principles of Clinical Audit.
    • Evidence of participation in audit projects with specific relevance to subspecialty interest.
    • Regular commitment to relevant Continuing Medical Education.
    • Understanding of research principles and scientific method.
    • Evidence of reflective practice.
    • Awareness of the current organisation of the Trust and the NHS, and the proposed changes to the service.
