Role Responsibilities

The OneWelbeck Endoscopy Centre is on the lookout for skilled Consultant Anaesthetists to spearhead the administration of intravenous anaesthesia and sedation, ensuring comprehensive peri-procedural care. You will collaborate with fellow Consultant Anaesthetists to provide coverage across our four procedure rooms, operational five days a week. Your role will also encompass participation in performance enhancement and quality assurance initiatives.

Required Qualifications
  • Full registration with the GMC and a valid licence to practice
  • Proof of qualifications as a Consultant Anaesthetist, including primary medical degree (MBBS or equivalent)
  • FRCA or equivalent, with evidence of completion of higher specialist training
  • Admission to the Specialist Register for Anaesthesia
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Consultant within the UK's National Health Service
  • Current Adult Life Support certification
  • Malpractice indemnity evidence covering the scope of practice
  • Proven experience in administering local anaesthesia, conscious sedation, and general anaesthesia
Training and Quality Assurance
  • Experience in conducting audits
  • Active participation in quality improvement initiatives
  • Experience in teaching multidisciplinary teams in acute medical scenarios
  • Commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) with appropriate evidence for annual appraisal

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates understanding of growth and development principles, providing age-appropriate care
  • Administers anaesthesia as sanctioned by the Centre's Governing Body
  • Fosters a culture of safety and quality
  • Executes all aspects of anaesthesia care prioritizing patient safety and minimizing healthcare errors
  • Conducts pre-anaesthesia and airway assessments prior to procedures
  • Manages medications efficiently according to established protocols and policies
  • Adheres strictly to infection control and safe injection practices
  • Maintains patient presence as necessary based on their anaesthesia status until care is transferred to qualified personnel
  • Communicates effectively regarding patient conditions and ongoing care requirements
  • Accurately documents all anaesthesia and sedation details along with airway management techniques used
  • Conducts post-anaesthesia assessments and records visits, including documentation of any complications
  • Advocates for patients to ensure safe care delivery
  • Assists in patient selection and discusses anaesthetic plans when risks are identified
  • Discharges patients from recovery based on established criteria and documents appropriately
  • Treats patients and families with respect and dignity
  • Recognizes and addresses the psychosocial needs of patients and families
  • Documents narcotic usage and waste as per organizational policies
  • Responds to emergencies requiring anaesthesia expertise
  • Checks resuscitative equipment before the first procedure of the day and reports any issues immediately
  • Ensures documentation meets current standards and follows Centre policies
  • Complies with the Medical Staff bylaws of the Centre
Language Proficiency
  • Proficient in English (comprehension, reading, and writing)
  • For international candidates, proof of passing English language exams and provisional GMC registration is required.
