Overview

In this position, you will take charge of developing, maintaining, and enhancing Supplier Controls Assurance (SCA) strategies. Collaborating with essential stakeholders and Supplier Relationship Managers, your focus will be on effectively identifying and managing supplier-related risks.

By ensuring robust assurance frameworks for key suppliers, the SCA team plays a vital role within the risk management function, promoting best practices across Sainsbury's Bank and Argos Financial Services ('the Bank') in alignment with the Bank's risk tolerance.

With a keen awareness of the regulatory landscape and external factors, the SCA Manager will provide effective oversight of the Bank's supplier-related risks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and evaluate risks and essential controls within suppliers to minimize the Bank's exposure.
  • Oversee the creation and upkeep of SCA testing plans, collaborating with the Bank's Policy Standard stakeholders, internal risk teams across three lines of defense, and the Group Third Party Assurance team.
  • Enhance the Bank's comprehension of supplier risks and assurance processes through coaching and educational initiatives for all relevant personnel.
  • Conduct thorough planning to pinpoint key supplier processes, risks, and controls, defining targeted testing strategies in accordance with the SCA methodology.
  • Lead SCA reviews, which may include on-site evaluations at supplier facilities, focusing on defined risk categories (Information Security, Business Continuity & Incident Management, Information Technology, Records Management, Data Protection, and Data Governance) to assess potential impacts on the Bank and develop mitigation strategies in partnership with suppliers and relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Produce timely, concise, and high-quality reports to communicate the outcomes of assurance activities to key supplier, policy, and risk stakeholders.
  • Maintain comprehensive audit trails and documentation of SCA reviews to accurately reflect the work performed and deliver effective assurance outcomes to internal stakeholders.
  • Analyze trends within supply chain assurance reviews to identify common weaknesses and recommend improvements to the control environment.
  • Ensure that any incomplete assurance activities have a clear remediation plan in place and are monitored accordingly.
  • Leverage industry networks to stay informed about market trends and external influences, ensuring the Bank maintains a leading approach to supplier assurance.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Degree-level education or equivalent experience; professional qualifications (e.g., CISA, CISM, CISSP, ISO27001) are preferred.
  • Experience managing under frameworks such as COBIT, ITIL, ISO27001, ISO22301.
  • Background in risk management, assurance, or control testing within Financial Services.
  • Strong understanding of risk management practices with the ability to identify, assess, and manage risks effectively.
  • Familiarity with at least two areas of risk: Information Security, Business Continuity & Incident Management, Information Technology, Records Management, Data Protection, and Data Governance.
  • Ability to analyze external trends and influences to manage suppliers and associated risks effectively.
  • Good understanding of supply chains and their inherent risks.
  • Excellent written communication skills, particularly in business and project reporting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of communicating complex issues to diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to work independently and introduce innovative ideas to the role and team.
  • Track record of implementing best practice solutions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders, policy experts, supplier relationship managers, and suppliers.
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Experience providing specialized services to a diverse internal customer base.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to influence challenging stakeholders effectively.
  • Collaborative team player focused on achieving results.
  • Customer-oriented mindset.
