Manchester, United Kingdom Career Connect Full time

Join Our Team as a Pre-Release Support Specialist

Salary Range: £26,485 - £30,012 per annum

Fixed-term position with potential for extension.

We are thrilled to announce an opening for a Pre-Release Support Specialist within our expanding Employment and Learning Support Service. This role is integral to the Greater Manchester Education, Training and Employment Service (GM ETE), which aims to assist individuals under the supervision of the Probation Service in accessing meaningful educational and employment opportunities.

If you possess experience working with marginalized populations, including individuals on probation or those transitioning from incarceration, we encourage you to consider this opportunity.

Your responsibilities will include engaging with incarcerated individuals to promote participation in educational, training, and employment initiatives through both individual and group sessions. The role will require you to operate within correctional facilities.

We seek a proactive individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to manage a diverse caseload effectively. The ideal candidate will have the experience and skills necessary to facilitate group sessions for individuals facing challenges. Collaboration with partner organizations is essential to achieve optimal outcomes for our clients. Accurate documentation of participant plans is crucial, necessitating comfort with databases and a keen attention to detail.

In collaboration with the incarcerated individual, you will develop an action plan, establish educational and employment goals for their time in custody, and create a comprehensive plan for their reintegration upon release.

You will coordinate with community-based Key Workers to ensure a smooth transition, including organizing a meeting upon release at the local probation office. Travel expenses incurred will be reimbursed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial assessments for all new referrals.
  • Develop action plans detailing activities for service users.
  • Encourage service users to engage with the program and attend scheduled appointments.
  • Manage service users effectively throughout their journey.
  • Implement interventions as specified in the action plan.
  • Direct service users to specialized support organizations for additional assistance.
  • Customize support to align with individual needs and learning preferences.
  • Collaborate effectively with Probation Practitioners and correctional facility staff.
  • Visit correctional facilities regularly to engage with potential participants.
  • Coordinate with the Probation Practitioner for referrals via the appropriate case management system.
  • Participate in prison resettlement boards.

We are particularly interested in candidates who can establish connections with individuals to facilitate their progress, network with partner organizations, and explore new opportunities for those on their caseload. Additionally, you will possess the skills necessary to achieve individual performance objectives.

We provide comprehensive training to equip you for the Key Worker role and ongoing support to help you succeed in this position.

Your Benefits

Our full-time employees enjoy a balanced 35-hour work week, with the option for flexible hours. When additional hours are required, we ensure that employees can reclaim those hours at a later date. This is one of the many advantages of working with Career Connect. Both full-time and part-time positions are available.

Key Workers are compensated on a scale up to £30,012, with reimbursement for any travel beyond your primary work location. Our holiday entitlement starts at 25 days plus Bank Holidays, with up to an additional 6 days granted for longer service. From 2025, we will introduce a holiday flex scheme, allowing staff to purchase extra holiday days.

Join a dedicated team within a growing charity focused on enhancing social mobility. You will have access to training, career advancement opportunities, birthday leave, and additional benefits.

Application Process

To apply, please submit your CV and a cover letter detailing how your experience and skills align with the job requirements.
