Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated clinical pharmacist to become an integral part of our innovative and patient-centered Orthopaedic Services team. This role offers both full-time and part-time permanent opportunities, as well as fixed-term or secondment options.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in enhancing the pharmaceutical care provided to orthopaedic patients, both elective and trauma cases. Key Responsibilities

The selected pharmacist will join a dynamic team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, collaborating closely with Nurse Practitioners and Surgical Care Practitioners to deliver an enhanced service for both elective and trauma patients.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting pre-operative assessments and managing prescribing/transcribing services on orthopaedic inpatient wards.
  • Delivering comprehensive pharmaceutical care, which encompasses:
    • Pre-assessment consultations
    • Patient counseling
    • Preparing electronic medication charts for patient admissions
    • Optimizing medication regimens
    • Prescribing for inpatients
    • Completing electronic medication charts for emergency admissions
    • Writing discharge prescriptions
    • Monitoring therapeutic drug levels
    • Engaging in audit and quality improvement initiatives
  • Supporting non-prescribing pharmacists in obtaining prescribing qualifications.

This progressive role is designed to adapt continuously to enhance patient care, ensuring compliance with local and national standards while facilitating patient flow through the healthcare system.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • Master of Pharmacy
  • Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent experience
  • Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council

Desirable Qualifications

  • Independent prescribing qualification

Essential Experience

  • Extensive experience in hospital pharmacy settings
  • In-depth clinical pharmacy knowledge and experience
