Position Overview

We are a distinguished Orthopaedic department recognized globally for our innovative practices and, most importantly, our commitment to outstanding patient care and treatment.

Our facility boasts 5 operating theatres within the main surgical complex, including 2 theatres associated with our major trauma center. We are in the process of establishing a dedicated 2-theatre orthopaedic elective complex.

Our team comprises 37 orthopaedic consultants specializing in all facets of orthopaedic surgery, both elective and trauma cases. We rank among the largest orthopaedic departments nationally, with numerous collaborations on international programs, local initiatives, and research endeavors.

The orthopaedic theatre staff includes approximately 80 professionals, including Registered Nurses, Operating Department Practitioners (ODP) skilled in both surgical and anaesthetic roles, Nursing Associates (NA), and theatre support personnel. All team members are dedicated to fostering a philosophy of multi-skilling and integration within the theatre environment.

Key Responsibilities

We are excited to announce a new role aimed at supporting our continuous development and expansion within the orthopaedic service.

As the Assistant Orthopaedic Team Supervisor, the successful candidate will be tasked with:

  • Overseeing and coordinating the orthopaedic team.
  • Supporting the Clinical Leader in delivering expert clinical practices within our specialized orthopaedic environment.
  • Assisting in the design, implementation, and coordination of support and development programs for qualified practitioners, preceptors, and various learners and support staff in specialized areas, focusing on recruitment, retention, and skill enhancement.
  • Providing expert clinical advice, guidance, leadership, and managerial skills to ensure the delivery of clinically effective services aligned with local and national development plans and Trust policies.

Job Responsibilities

1. Lead by example, promoting positive interpersonal relationships and encouraging high staff morale.

2. Coordinate and communicate the placement of appropriate personnel and skills across the department and other areas within the Trust, including during emergency situations.

3. Undertake designated responsibilities in the event of an emergency in accordance with Trust guidelines.

4. Participate in managing resources within the clinical area, adhering to the agreed budget.

5. Implement Trust and directorate evidence-based policies and guidelines.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner on the appropriate part of the NMC/Health Care Professions Council register.
  • Completion of the mentorship preparation program or equivalent.

Desirable

  • Possession of or progress towards a health-related degree.

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience at Band 5, with some time spent in a relevant specialty position.
  • Experience in managing and leading a clinical area.

Skills
