Norwich, Norfolk, United Kingdom Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Full time

Job Overview

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is a progressive teaching facility dedicated to providing acute healthcare services to a diverse population. As one of the largest acute teaching hospitals in the UK, we maintain strong affiliations with both the School of Pharmacy and the Medical School at the nearby University of East Anglia. Our commitment to modern healthcare practices includes the implementation of electronic prescribing and medicines administration across all inpatient areas, emergency services, and outpatient departments. We prioritize Medicines Management and innovative pharmaceutical practices.

This position is ideal for a seasoned pharmacist eager to enhance patient care quality. While prior experience in gastroenterology is advantageous, it is not a prerequisite as comprehensive training will be offered.

We encourage informal visits to our facilities or inquiries regarding this role. Our recruitment team is also available to provide resources to assist with your application process.

The working hours are Monday to Friday, with a requirement to work one weekend every ten weeks, along with corresponding time off during the week. Additionally, there is an expectation to work at least one public holiday each year.

Key Responsibilities

In recognition of the outstanding pharmacy support from our current team, we are excited to introduce a new role for a highly motivated and experienced pharmacist to become a vital member of the Gastroenterology Multidisciplinary Team. This role entails participation in outpatient clinics, where you will serve as an independent prescriber, conducting patient evaluations and ensuring the realization of medicines optimization opportunities. This position offers an excellent chance to showcase and/or develop advanced clinical skills in gastroenterology while gaining significant experience in service enhancement.

Additional responsibilities include supporting clinical governance processes, such as the development of guidelines, policies, and procedures related to the use of medications within gastroenterology, as well as engaging in research and educational activities.

If successful in this role, you will join a welcoming pharmacy team dedicated to delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care. Although your primary focus will be in gastroenterology clinics, you will also contribute to gastroenterology ward rounds and the broader clinical pharmacy service, providing support to junior pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and trainees.

Job Responsibilities

The ideal candidate for this position will be self-motivated, capable of working independently, and adept at thriving in a fast-paced environment. A positive demonstration of the Trust's PRIDE values is essential. We support the professional development of advanced practice roles, leadership skills, and the completion of an independent prescribing qualification for those who do not already possess one.

Responsibilities include maintaining, developing, and expanding clinical pharmacy services within the Gastroenterology Directorate. This is a practitioner role, and the post holder is expected to work independently within guidelines and directions from the Divisional Lead Pharmacist, Medicine, while supervising pharmacists, trainee pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and liaising with technical and assistant staff.

The role also involves acting as an expert resource on the safe and effective use of medications for managing older patients, including initiating and deprescribing medications and promoting/evaluating the discharge medicines service. This will encompass policy writing, conducting audits, and actively participating in the training and development of pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals within critical care.

The successful candidate will provide high-quality clinical pharmacy services as a member of the clinical pharmacy team, addressing the needs of patients and healthcare professionals within the Trust.

To support the delivery of a high-quality, safe, and compassionate healthcare service, all staff are expected to serve as role models in all aspects of their work and consistently demonstrate NNUH's PRIDE values of People-focused, Respect, Integrity, Dedication, and Excellence, fostering an inclusive culture.
