Job Overview

The selected candidate will be accountable for developing, leading, and delivering a high-quality clinical service across various clinical specialties, collaborating closely with senior pharmacy management. They will exemplify the practice of patient-centered pharmacy technician services.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Direct the establishment and enhancement of medicines management pharmacy technician and assistant services.
  2. Formulate and execute policies, procedures, and operational practices to ensure the effective and safe functioning of pharmacy services.
  3. Collaborate with Care Group Pharmacists to align medicines management activities with the needs of clinical teams.
  4. Manage and mentor pharmacy technicians and assistants, ensuring their professional development.
  5. Ensure quality assurance for pharmacy services, including the development and monitoring of performance indicators.
  6. Actively participate in pharmacy management initiatives, leading practice advancements across the organization.
  7. Identify opportunities for service enhancement within clinical areas and collaborate with senior pharmacists to implement improvements.
  8. Oversee clinical pharmacy service activity monitoring and reporting, including training for team members.
  9. Facilitate effective communication regarding developments in the medicines management service across the organization.
  10. Contribute to the development and review of policies impacting the pharmacy department and ensure compliance.

Detailed Responsibilities
  1. Deliver a specialized, patient-focused technical pharmacy service.
  2. Provide expert guidance on pharmacy medicines management services and drug utilization.
  3. Uphold exceptional customer service standards when interacting with patients and staff.
  4. Assist with medication management for individual patients, within the scope of expertise.
  5. Advocate for pharmaceutical care for all patients.
  6. Conduct medicines management training and accreditations, adhering to established protocols.
  7. Resolve issues related to medication transfer and assist in locating misplaced medicines.
  8. Engage in cost-saving initiatives, including the reuse of patient-owned medications.
  9. Ensure timely and efficient medication supply for patient discharges.
  10. Provide patient counseling regarding medication use.
  11. Participate in dispensary operations, including leading pharmacy services as necessary.
  12. Manage team workload in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  13. Ensure compliance with medication storage protocols in clinical settings.
  14. Monitor and report on drug cost-saving initiatives and efficiencies.
  15. Lead research and audit activities within the pharmacy service, contributing to departmental advancements.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Professional registration with the relevant regulatory body.
  • Completion of a recognized pharmacy technician qualification.
  • Experience in hospital pharmacy practice with demonstrated competencies.
  • Proven experience in team management and strategic service development.
