About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Pharmacy Technician to lead our Medicines Management team at Barts Health NHS Trust. As a key member of our pharmacy team, you will be responsible for managing the ward-based team of Pharmacy Technicians, pre-registration pharmacy technicians, and Medicines Management pharmacy assistants.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage the ward-based team of Pharmacy Technicians, pre-registration pharmacy technicians, and Medicines Management pharmacy assistants.
  • Provide a patient-facing service to inpatient wards and organize the operational flow of the service.
  • Lead the promotion and development of ward-based pharmacy technician services.
  • Assist pharmacists in ensuring patients' pharmaceutical care needs are met at ward level.
  • Develop the service and roles of Medicines Management technicians in conjunction with the clinical pharmacy team.
  • Work closely with the Deputy Head of Pharmacy and the Site Lead Pharmacy Technician.

Person Specification

  • BTEC Pharmaceutical Sciences/NVQ 3 or equivalent.
  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification.
  • HEE LaSE Medicines Optimisation qualification or equivalent.

Desirable Criteria

  • ILM Level 3 Leadership and Management qualification or equivalent.
  • Practice Supervisor, Train the trainer or equivalent qualification.

Experience

  • Significant experience as a pharmacy technician.
  • Relevant post-registration experience in a hospital pharmacy department and as a ward-based Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician.
  • Experience of managing or supervising a small team of staff.
  • Experience of training staff, including providing developmental feedback and implementing training plans.
  • Medicines management experience in a ward-based setting.
