Job Overview

An exceptional opportunity exists for a highly skilled and motivated pharmacy technician to oversee the medicines management service and the clinical pharmacy technician and assistant team across multiple hospital sites.

The successful candidate will be accountable for developing, leading, and delivering a top-tier clinical service across various specialties, collaborating closely with senior pharmacy management. They will exemplify the practice of patient-centered pharmacy technician services.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Direct the establishment and enhancement of medicines management pharmacy technician and assistant services.
  2. Formulate and execute policies, procedures, and operational practices to ensure the safe and efficient functioning of the pharmacy services.
  3. Collaborate with pharmacists to address medicines management needs and ensure responsiveness to clinical requirements.
  4. Manage and mentor pharmacy technicians and assistants, ensuring high standards of service delivery.
  5. Oversee quality assurance measures for the pharmacy services, including the development and tracking of quality metrics.
  6. Actively participate in pharmacy management groups, leading initiatives to advance pharmacy technician practices.
  7. Identify opportunities for service development within the Trust and work with senior pharmacists to implement these improvements.
  8. Ensure effective communication regarding developments in the medicines management service across the organization.
  9. Contribute to the formulation and review of policies impacting the pharmacy department and ensure compliance with these policies.

Detailed Responsibilities
  1. Deliver a specialized, patient-focused technical pharmacy service.
  2. Provide expert guidance on pharmacy medicines management services and drug utilization.
  3. Uphold exceptional customer service standards when interacting with patients and staff.
  4. Assist with medication management for individual patients, within the scope of expertise.
  5. Promote pharmaceutical care across all patient interactions.
  6. Conduct medicines management accreditations and ensure compliance with established protocols.
  7. Facilitate the transfer of medications between clinical areas and ensure proper documentation.
  8. Engage in cost-saving initiatives and optimize the use of patient-owned medications.
  9. Oversee the management of patient-owned drugs within the Trust.
  10. Participate in the financial reporting of drug expenditures and efficiencies.
  11. Lead and manage the pharmacy technician team, ensuring compliance with training and development requirements.
  12. Foster a positive work environment and support the well-being of the team.
  13. Engage in research and audit activities related to pharmacy services, contributing to the advancement of clinical practices.
