Primary Responsibilities

A remarkable opportunity has emerged within the Division B Governance team at the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS), and we are excited to offer a position for a Risk and Governance Coordinator.

As a vital member of the Divisional Governance Group, you will assist the Division in adhering to the Care Quality Commission (CQC), NHS Litigation Authority's (NHSLA) Risk Management Standards, and other regulatory bodies to ensure the achievement of Governance objectives for the Division.

Key Duties

  • Oversee the investigation, monitoring, and assessment of all incidents, including serious patient safety occurrences, in accordance with the national framework.
  • Manage the clinical review process for Serious Incidents Requiring Investigation (SIRI).
  • Collaborate with the Education Team to disseminate lessons learned from serious incidents within the Division and the Trust.
  • Administer the management of policies and guidelines.
  • Provide support and guidance to the Care group regarding risk and patient safety management.

Job Responsibilities

General Duties

  • Ensure the execution of Trust Risk Strategies across the Care Group.
  • Advocate for the Risk Strategy among all staff members.
  • Facilitate effective communication channels regarding risk management to all staff within the Care Group.
  • Assist Matrons and Department managers in conducting effective risk assessments and making informed risk management decisions.
  • Aid in identifying risk and safety deficiencies and support managers in developing action plans, monitoring, and reviewing these plans accordingly.
  • Chair Care Group link nurse/local representative meetings and report outcomes to Clinical Governance Leads.
  • Effectively manage the clinical risk review process by facilitating the investigation and analysis of SIRIs, liaising with the Trust Patient Safety Team.
  • Present cases to the Serious Incident Scrutiny Group (SISG) review group.
  • Analyze complex data from incidents, recognizing and interpreting trends.
  • Present information using various media to senior managers, consultants, and colleagues.
  • Generate reports as needed on clinical risk management aspects, detailing information for each Care Group.
  • Produce quarterly and annual clinical risk management or patient safety reports for the Division and the Trust, identifying trends and making recommendations for action.
  • As the Risk and Safety Coordinator, collaborate with Divisional Health & Safety representatives to implement and monitor policies and procedures ensuring the health, safety, and security of all staff within the Care Groups.
  • Provide the Divisional Governance Manager with evidence required for CQC and other risk-related assessments within the Division and the Trust as necessary.
  • Support both Care groups in implementing actions and recommendations from patient safety-related complaints, ensuring lessons are learned and shared.
  • Liaise with Trust Legal Services and the Trust Patient Support Services team to provide necessary information in preparation for potential litigation against the Trust, ensuring lessons are learned and shared.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or possess equivalent work experience at a graduate level.
  • Risk and Safety qualification at postgraduate diploma level or demonstrate specialist knowledge and understanding of risk and safety management at an equivalent level.
  • Previous clinical experience.
  • Experience with clinical governance issues and management of AERS.
  • Experience in policy and guideline management.
  • Understanding of Child Protection/Safeguarding.
  • Experience in setting and monitoring standards.
